About Me
Hello and welcome. My name is Garrick. I’ll keep this short because that’s the best way we can digest information isn’t it? This blog is focused on web development that I learn and know, but will also include unrelated info. That’s as short as it get’s. The longer stuff starts after this line.
Who is this dude?
I’m a designer turned front end developer. I graduated in ’06 from San Jose State University with BA in Art: Design Studies – Emphasis in Graphic Design and BS in Advertising. I interned at Informatica for one year doing print/web design. I joined CBS Interactive’s (aka CNET Networks) games and entertainment division when I graduated and have been there ever since. Site’s I’ve worked on include GameSpot.com, MP3.com, TV.com, and SportsGamer.com.
What does he know?
The design background gave me a design vocabulary. I like white spaces and minimalism and enjoy a good composition and layout with clean typography to match. I know my way around Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, though I wouldn’t say I’m a guru. For web development I know CSS, MooTools, and Smarty. I’m learning PHP. Lastly, don’t hate me, I like using frameworks, such as CodeIgniter.
Tools of the trade?
Komodo Edit is my text editor of choice because I like the interface. I like how I can create projects to keep track of all related files. It’s able to color organize several different languages too! I use FireFox 2/3 with FireBug and Web Developer plugins as starting points and test on all the other browsers afterwards (IE 6/7, Opera, Safari).
